In the town of Bro, about 40 minutes from Stockholm, this golf course is a tranquil, peaceful and beautiful location in the middle of the countryside. So much so, that our Uber got lost but thankfully google maps helped us find the place, but it was just on time!

Our Uber drove up toward these grand gates that slowly opened.  The road continued up toward a large beautiful Mansion.  On either side were two smaller White buildings, the one on the right being the clubhouse.

We were told that the property once belonged to a Swedish nobleman, and we can picture what the scene must have been like 100 or so years ago.

There are two courses in the complex, the Castle Course, that seems to have less water, and there is a castle relic. The course we played was called the Stadium Course and this course was host to many professional golf tournaments and oh so many holes by the water. 

It was a bit rushed because we got lost, but the two pro shop workers were very nice and we quickly got to the 1st Tee and joined Pelle, a local Swedish native and member of the club. He was particularly welcoming, relaxed and a pleasure to share 9 holes with.  It’s always extra enjoyable to play with a local, and it’s helpful because they know the course.

Robert Trent Jones Jr. was the course designer and he said “Mother Nature must have created this area for a golf course. All I had to do was walk around this beautiful landscape and see where the holes would fit in.”

The golf course conditions are impeccable. You are basically surrounded by water, with oh so much water in play.  Bring lots of golf balls!  The fairways are perfectly manicured. Similar to Pebble Beach, there are so many beautiful views, so Liz was very distracted taking photos!

There are many tee options, there is great signage, but not too much that you still feel like you are walking through a very natural setting. The sand in the bunkers were the whitest and softest we have seen. There are lots of hills, stones walls for bridges used by the walkers that are similar to St. Andrews.

Holes 15 and 16 are similar to Pebble Beach holes  7-10, where it darts out into the water and the Green is mostly surrounded by the water.  Hole 17 is an Island Green like TPC Sawgrass.  Hole 18 is very up hill with views of the Mansion. Once up 18 you can head up grand stairs to an outdoor seating area for a beverage and/or snack and continue to bask in the beauty of the area.

A unique feature of the course is a central “half-way” House but it was in the center and you passed it by 4 times. It was very helpful to keep refiling out water, grab a bite and use the bathroom. We think all courses should adopt this approach!

Our recommendation if you play this course is to slow down and enjoy the journey and ride!  We really didn’t want it to end. If people want to play faster, let them pass you. Their loss not being more present and bathing in the natural beauty more.  It was a pricey treat, but a wonderful experience.

Stockholm is a larger and more modern city compared to Copenhagen and Helsinki. In July it was quite full of visitors! It does offer many, many museums and historic buildings. This is another city to be sure to take a walking tour to see the tourist and non-tourist sights.
