Camelback Golf Club, JW Marriott Camelback - “In All The World Only One” - July 2014

The Camelback Golf Club has two courses, Padre and Ambiente. We played the newly renovated Ambiente (Spanish for Environment). They cut down 800 trees and replaced them with natural grasses to reduce the need for water – and create a more desert natural setting.

An enjoyable round is yours if you play smart and straight. There are not a lot of forced carries or obstacles unless you veer off course too much! The Greens however are in “pro” condition - probably running about 11 or 12 on the stimp meter, so bring your best putting.

A couple of the holes play against Camelback and Mummy mountains – so bring your camera!

We played with Scott and Mike, two local Arizonians who were practicing for a 2-man Best Ball Tournament the next day. They did pretty well – so hopefully the practice paid off for them during the real round.

The Tee-Box Markers are shaped like camels – very cute. Teal is the new red and the color of the forward tees, which on some holes could have been a smidge more forward!

Thanks to the staff and a shout out to Rob Bartley, Director of Golf for the great and friendly service.

The JW Marriott Camelback is a must visit! The hotel, its rooms and grounds are unique and relaxing. The staff is very attentive.Between the Spa, the Pool and the Golf a wonderful long weekend awaits you (consider a visit Oct – April – will be a smidge cooler!)
