Wildfire Golf Club, JW Marriott Desert Ridge, Arnold Palmer Course - July 2014

The Wildfire Golf Club is home to two 18-Hole Golf Courses, Faldo and Palmer. We played the Palmer Course on a July morning starting out with a balmy 98 degrees at 6:30am! The heat kicked it up a notch by the back nine - but plenty of water and ice cold melon scented towels got us to 18.

The clubhouse is one of the largest we have seen with an array of golf attire and accessories. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. We played with a nice couple, Cathy and Bob from North Carolina.

The course is well manicured with just about every species of cacti. We certainly knew we were playing desert golf; however, there was plenty of green to keep your ball safe if you have decent accuracy. As long as you keep it in the fairway (but really, how many of us do that?) there is not a lot of trouble.

No water to be found until about 17th when you come upon the only pond, which after 17 holes in over 100 degrees – we thought it was an oasis mirage and it took all we had to not jump in!

This is a forward friendly course with an extra “layer” of forward Tee-boxes, of which I happily took the advantage provided! Tee markers are the signature Arnold Palm Umbrellas - are a nice touch.

Be sure to enjoy lunch after your round at the Meritage Steakhouse – the food was fantastic!
