Continuing our quest to golf all the Canadian Provinces, we visit Montreal, in the Providence of Quebec and enjoyed a round of golf at Club de Golf De Lile De Montreal, which was about 40 minutes northeast of downtown. Jeff selected this course because it was designed by Pat Ruddy who's son Gerry Ruddy we met in Ireland at the European Club course! And sure enough in the Clubhouse was a plaque in Pat Ruddy's honor. There are two courses, the Ireland Course and the Island Course. The Ireland Course is a very challenging Links course so we opt'd for the "more fun" Island Course which was more traditional with many many trees and # 8 is the signature hole with an Island Green!
The course is close to a highway and in an industrial area with a lot of power lines around, but somehow, once you get into the course, most of the time you don't even realize it!
There is a nice clubhouse the greets you and the staff was very friendly. They have a fantastic selection of golf club rentals as well!
There is a 5 minute walk to the 1st Tee where there is a small Starter's building. We were paired up with a local resident, Alex, who was very nice and it was terrific to chat with him as we walked the course together.
There are several Tee boxes; Black, Blue, White, Green, Orange and Red! However, as you will see in one of the photos above, many times the Green, Orange and Red were all the same!
The Island Course is said to be a "golf course designed for a pleasure" with limited blind spots, and while it was not too challenging, there is still a need for accuracy and there is plenty of water to lose balls! The Par 3s are deceptively tricky and seem easy but the greens are really challenging! Good course management is needed and especially on #8!
It was a good walk, not too hilly and good signage and flow. The course was in fantastic condition when we played (July 2025). There were tons of Canadian Geese, and unfortunately for them, then loved congregating near the Tee Boxes. Sadly on Hole 4 our golf mate Alex, flubbed his shot and hit a goose and based on our observations, we presume he was left with a broken leg. Alex called the ProShop and apparently they have a "process" for wounded animals. Hopefully it's not just "lets take it to the farm".
Thank you to the staff and to Alex, who became our local guide, we had a very enjoyable round and would highly recommend this course! And if you have enough time, go ahead and play both courses for two very different experience. We wish we did!
As we drove back to Montreal downtown we stumbled upon the Olympic Village, used during the 1996 Summer Olympics, where we were excited to see another building from the TV series we watch "How Did They Build That". Unfortunately it was closed for renovations so we were not able to go up to the top - but it was awesome to see it in person after seeing how it was created!!
